Chapter 40 - Fall Preview

I always look forward to new books coming out in the fall. In fact, one year I bought a whole bunch of new books, wrapped them and told my husband, Dave, he had gotten them for me for Christmas. He was happy that he didn't have to think too hard to find a gift. Okay, so it didn't sound as weird when I did it as when I just wrote it but...book people are like that.

So here are some new or soon to be published books that if you are looking for a Christmas gift for me or another book lover in your life, you might consider!

Agent Sonya by Ben MacIntyre - This nonfiction book by MacIntyre is about Russia's most active female spy who lived with her husband in England's Cotswolds. From there, this Russian colonel and devout Communist, ran a spy ring across Europe.

The Evening and The Morning by Ken Follett - Follett who wrote three previous books in the Cathedral series (Pillars of the Earth, World Without End, and Columns of Fire) returns with this prequel to them all. The story is about three people living in 997 CE dealing with Vikings, the Welsh, and an era of violence and political intrigue (sound familiar?).

Both of the above books are available now.

A Time For Mercy by John Grisham - Jake Brigance is back and is acting as a court-appointed attorney for a 16 year old boy accused of murdering a local deputy. But, with Grisham, there is more to the story than meets the eye. Look for this new book around October 13.

The Sentinel by Lee Child and Andrew Child - Lee Child decided to turn over the reins of his Jack Reacher series to his brother Andrew (not their real names). This is the first of that group of books. In this one the ever wandering Reacher finds himself in Pleasantville, Tennessee where all is certainly not pleasant. The latest Reacher installment releases October 27.

Daylight by David Baldacci - The third book in Baldacci's Atlee Pine series, Pine is still looking for her sister Mercy who was abducted at age six. In this installment she gets help from John Puller (Zero Day) who is conducting his own investigation. This release is November 17.

My Name Is Anton by Catherine Ryan Hyde - Anton's brother has died in a tragic accident and while celebrating the holidays alone, he realizes that his neighbor Edith is in serious danger from her abusive husband. Anton is determined to help her leave him. This book releases December 1.

The Mystery of Mrs. Christie by Marie Benedict - Marie Benedict does an excellent job of novelizing the lives of extraordinary women and this one will, no doubt, be terrific as well. In December of 1926 Agatha Christie went missing as her abandoned car was found on the edge of a gloomy pond. Where was she and what happened? You'll have to read to find out in this late December release.

What books you looking forward to end the year? Let me know.
