Chapter 20 - Someone You Know - Part 2

As we discussed last week, I love new books by authors I know. I am always amazed at how an author who repeatedly writes the same genre or even a series can keep going with fresh new episodes. I also find it wonderful how authors who write stand alone books can come up with so many different ideas. Their books often include those which take place in different time periods and places.

Some of my favorite new or new-ish books are listed below. I am sure you will recognize the authors and will want to read these new books.

Beach Haven by T.I.Lowe - This is the first of Tonya Lowe's Carolina Coast series with two more due out this summer. Tonya first became known to me with her wonderful book Lulu's Cafe and I have really enjoyed her writing. This book is, I think, another win for her with a feisty heroine, a damaged hero, and a strong cast of characters to support the action.

The Giver of Stars by JoJo Moyes - Moyes is all over the board with her books jumping from present time to World War II, to World War I and back again. The Giver of Stars is about the pack horse librarians who traveled through rural Kentucky in the 30's as part of Eleanor Roosevelt's traveling library program. Again Moyes does a great job with the time period and subject, putting the reader right there.

When You See Me by Lisa Gardner - Lisa Gardner is a really good writer and accomplishes what I mentioned above. She always keeps the story and characters fresh even though you have read about them in her books before. In this book, Boston Detective, D.D. Warren, is part of a task force hunting down a serial killer with an MO like a killer who D.D. knows is dead.

The Book of Lost Friends by Lisa Wingate - Wingate's last novel, Before We Were Yours, was about how in the 1920s through 1950, thousands of children of single mothers and poverty-stricken parents were taken away by the Tennessee Children’s Home Society and its Memphis branch director, Georgia Tann. These children were adopted out to parents who paid a lot for the privilege. Her latest, The Book of Lost Friends, is again a historically based novel about three women trying to find family and friends in the aftermath of the Civil War.

Camino Winds by John Grisham - At the time of this writing, I have not had a chance to read this latest by Grisham, released on April 28. It is a followup to Camino Island and reintroduces the characters of bookstore owner, Bruce Cable and author, Mercer Mann who just happen to start looking into the demise of a local author who models his characters on people who live on the island. If you enjoyed Camino Island I'm sure this will be a good one too!
