Chapter 19 - Someone You Know, Part 1

While some publishers are holding off on releasing new books because of COVID-19 and they really want their authors to do the dog and pony show of book signings, others are issuing books as if the world was back to normal. I suspect they feel that the author's works already have a following and so they will sell. Also it takes up to 18 months following an author's submission to get a book to publication.

So here are some books either already out or coming out soon from authors you may have already enjoyed.

The Splendid and the Vile by Erik Larson - I am a big, big fan of Larson and have read most of his previous books. His latest one, published in April, is about Churchill's first year as prime minister. It was a devastating time for England as Hitler was determined that a bombing campaign would bring the country to its knees. It didn't exactly happen that way. If you are watching the PBS show World on Fire, this would be a good companion book to that.

Code Name Helene by Ariel Lawhon - Lawhon is the author of fictional non-fiction, in other words, she takes historical information and writes a fictional narrative about it. This story is about one of the many women who went undercover to bolster the French Resistance during the German occupation in World War II. This was published in March.

The Last Train to Key West by Chanel Cleeton - Chanel Cleeton is one of my favorite authors of historical fiction. Her two previous novels center around the 1950's Cuban revolution and how her characters deal with it. This one takes place in 1935 and the impact a Key West hurricane has on three women who meet during a holiday weekend. It will be released in June.

The Wife Stalker by Liv Constantine - If you enjoyed The Last Mrs. Parrish by Constantine, you'll need to put this one on your reading list. Her latest will be released next week and promises to be as twisted and clever as her previous books. This is a thriller about a woman who seeks to break up and destroy families and a woman who fights back.

The Half Sister by Sandie Jones - Jones' debut novel The Other Woman was a wonderful psychological thriller. Her new one, which will be released in June, is more of the same. Two sisters meet for lunch once a week after the death of their beloved father. One day, a young woman approaches them claiming via DNA testing to be their half sister. It appears their perfect family isn't so perfect after all. Lots of drama and thrills to be found in this book.
