Welcome to Beach Walk Book Talks

Is there anything better than a walk on the beach  and a talk about books?  I don't think so. If you love the beach and books this is the place for you.  Here we will talk about my favorite beach, North Myrtle Beach, South Carolina and share books as we enjoy all the ocean has to show us.

About The Blog

The Story

My name is Vicki Baty.  I live and work in North Myrtle Beach, South Carolina which has, in my humble opinion, one of the most beautiful beaches on the East Coast.  I walk the beach almost daily and am always awed by the beauty of the ocean, the freshness of the air, and the amazing sea creatures I see.  Not a day on the beach goes by without of few lines of John Masefield's poem Sea Fever echoing in my head...

"I must go down to the seas again, to the lonely sea and the sky,

And all I ask is a tall ship and a star to steer her by..."

As I co-own a used and new book store, Bookends (www.bookendsonline.com)  in North Myrtle Beach, usually on these walks my husband, Dave, and I talk about the books I am reading.

You'll note that all my blog postings are the titles of books, but don't be fooled, the blog is not necessarily about that book, just a themed title!

So please, walk with me, talk with me as we enjoy this journey.

Chapter 3 -The Spy Who Came in From the Cold

On a beautiful, sunny day at the beach, it is hard to believe that there are dark forces in the universe or nefarious people hiding in dark corners doing dark deeds. One of my customers introduced me to true spy books and I am hooked! I guess you might call this genre my guilty little pleasure. Some of my favorites are listed below. These will definitely keep your interest. Clever Girl by Lauren Kessler - Almost better than any popular fiction spy story, this true story of Elizabeth Bentley is mesmerizing. A graduate of Vassar, Bentley became a leading spy and spy handler for the Russians before and during WWII. You won't believe what you read! The Hotel at Place Vendome by Tilar J. Ma

Chapter 2 - The Secret History

A day spent at the beach can be one of rest, meditation, jumping through waves or even learning something you didn't know. That is where a good book comes in. While history books can be interesting, sometimes they are dry which doesn't go well with a wet beach and can lead to snoozing and a bad case of sunburn! Some of my favorite books are historical novels especially about well known people. Here are some novels that will keep your interest while giving you historical accuracy. The Aviator's Wife by Melanie Benjamin - This is the account of Anne Morrow Lindbergh's life. An aviatrix, writer, mother, and wife, Anne has been overshadowed by her famous husband, Charles. Benjamin's novel
